Viña Santa Rita adds Sparkling and Sauvignon Blanc to its canned wine range15 de November de 2019

Santiago, November 2019. Two new products have just been added to the canned wines category from Viña Santa Rita. They are Rita Sparkling and Rita Blanc, sparkling 100% Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, respectively. Both products seek to reach white varieties lovers and position the winery as a leader in the Premium wine segment in this format.
Rita Sparkling y Rita Blanc, who join the market, are the second and third canned products launched by Santa Rita. Three months ago, the winery broke into Chile with this format with Rita Rosé, a wine that has achieved sales success. These new releases seek to add to the worldwide trend of canned wines, where sales of this type of products, in places such as the United States and Europe, have increased by more than 40%.
Santa Rita’s CMO, Jaime de la Barra, comments that this strong increase would be explained by the unique characteristics of canned wine: it is an easy to carry product, and since the consumer is increasingly concerned about environmental care, aluminum cans are one of the most recycled beverage containers in the world. In fact, it is made from recycled aluminum. “It is also attractive to buy a smaller and easier to carry measure, instead of a whole bottle, being able to generate a new occasion for more flexible and relaxed consumption,” adds De La Barra.
Sparkling conpsumtion grows
Rita Sparkling is made from 100% Chardonnay, where tropical fruits like pineapple and ripe bananas stand out. It has a great balance between sweetness and acidity, delivering a pleasant sensation on the palate.
Its creation responds, in part, to the rise of the category. According to Wines of de Chile, in recent years, total sparkling consumption in the country increased 110%, from 9 million liters in 2011 to more than 19 million in 2017, figures that in 2018 exceeded the 20 million liter barrier marketed. The same entity revealed that the participation of sparkling wines in the total of alcoholic beverages sold in Chile doubled since 2012, from 0.65% to 1.57% last year.
Chileans favorite White grape
On the other hand, Sauvignon Blanc has proven to be the favorite white variety in Chile. In fact, according to the last viticultural cadastre of the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG), it is the most planted white variety in Chile totaling 15,161 hectares.
The grapes used in the production of Rita Blanc are harvested early, delivering a product that naturally has less alcohol and greater freshness, being lighter and ideal to consume in spring and summer. It is 100% Sauvignon Blanc from Colchagua Costa and the Maule Valley.
“It has notes of peaches, citrus and pineapple. In the mouth it is soft, juicy and very fresh, being ideal as an aperitif or accompanying fish, seafood and salads”, says César Catalán, the winemaker in charge of the project.
The two products that have an individual format of 250 CC (equivalent to two glasses of wine) and are already available in the Wine Shop of the Santa Rira and in the e-commerce (www.santaritaonline.com).
