“Chile vs Bordeaux”: Exclusive Blind Tasting of Old and New World Wines in London
10 de March de 2026
This experience, aimed at members of the traditional British club, offered a sensory journey highlighting terroir, tradition, and quality across different expressions of origin.
On March 10, the prestigious restaurant Boisdale of Belgravia hosted an exclusive blind tasting bringing together key figures from the wine world for a comparative experience between Chile and France. Under the title “Chile vs Bordeaux,” the event engaged members of a traditional British club in a dialogue between leading exponents of the Old and New Worlds.
Representing Chile were Casa Real, a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Alto Jahuel, Maipo Valley; Pewën de Apalta 2020, a Carmenère expressing the distinct character of Apalta; and Triple C 2022, a Bordeaux-style blend combining Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Carmenère. These wines were tasted alongside renowned Bordeaux labels such as Château Lynch-Bages (Echo de Lynch-Bages 2020), Château Batailley 2017, and Château Montrose 2017—benchmark estates from appellations such as Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe.
The tasting was led by Terry Pennington, IBEI Export Director at Viña Santa Rita, who guided attendees through a sensory exploration focused on terroir, tradition, and quality. Through the blind tasting format, participants were able to discover and compare styles, origins, and winemaking philosophies.
Beyond a simple comparison, the tasting offered a broader reflection on the identity of great wines of origin, highlighting how Chile has positioned itself on the global stage with proposals that stand shoulder to shoulder with leading European benchmarks.
