Four Gold Medals for Viña Santa Rita at the Sakura Women’s Wine Awards

3 Medallas Carmenere 2021, Frescos Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2021, Héroes Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 and Héroes Chardonnay 2022 are the wines recognized by one of the most popular Asian wine completion.
February, 2023. Sakura Japan Women’s Wine Awards, one of the most popular wine competitions in Asia, recognized Viña Santa Rita’s best wines in 2023 with four Gold Medals and four Silver Medals, all from Chile’s Central Valley.
The Gold Medal-winning wines were three Santa Rita reds; 3 Medallas Carménère 2021, Frescos Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Héroes Cabernet Sauvignon 2022. Héroes Chardonnay 2022 was the white wine that stood out with a gold medal.
3 Medallas Carménère 2021 stands out for its deep, intense ruby red color with soft violet hues. According to winemaker César Catalán, it is reminiscent of various red and black fruits such as strawberries, cherries and blueberries, which combine with delicate hints of vanilla, cassis and spices.
Frescos Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 is a deep wine with a bright carmine red color. The nose is dominated by fruit such as cherries, blueberries and blackberries with delicate hints of vanilla from its time in French oak. On the palate it has a firm yet fresh tannic structure, highlighting its acidity that gives a wine with a long and juicy finish.
Héroes Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 is a red wine with carmine tints and a very bright appearance. The nose is intense, developed by the combination of various red fruits such as cherries and raspberries. Héroes Chardonnay 2022 stands out for its clean and bright golden yellow color. The nose is fresh, with notes reminiscent of honey, fruits such as peaches and bananas, along with soft citrus touches.
The wines that won Silver Medals at the renowned competition were 3 Medallas Cabernet Sauvignon 2022, Colección Privada Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2021, 3 Medallas Merlot 2021 and The Artisan Family Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2020.
Sakura Japan Women’s Wine Awards is a competition that aims to find wines that go well with Japanese home cooking”, “increase wine consumption” and “promote women working in the wine industry”.
This year the competition received a record 4,652 entries from 25 countries and was judged by 430 women who blind tasted and evaluated the various labels.
