Viña Santa Rita achieves historic scores in the Vinous 2026 Chile Report
25 de August de 2026
Joaquín Hidalgo, editor of the prestigious American publication, recognized the viticultural diversity of Chile and the winery’s ability to express the identity of its terroirs through wines from some of the country’s most renowned valleys, including Apalta, Maipo, Limarí and Leyda.
Highlighting Chile’s extraordinary endemic diversity and the singularity of its wines, the high-end portfolio of Viña Santa Rita achieved its highest scores to date in Vinous’ report “Chile: A Recalibration in the Heartlands of Maipo,” a publication founded by Antonio Galloni and regarded as one of the most influential voices in international wine criticism.
The evaluation was led by Joaquín Hidalgo, journalist and wine critic for the American magazine, who awarded 95 points to Pewën de Apalta 2024, a Carmenère crafted from vines planted in 1938 in the Apalta Valley. In his review, he portrayed the wine as textured and dry, noting that “the cool vintage and the wine‘s grip give it structure and definition.”
Gran Chiriquí 2023, the winery’s new high-end Chardonnay, earned the same score. Sourced from a single one-hectare vineyard in the Limarí Valley, just 27 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean, it was described by Hidalgo as a classic white from the region, intense and mineral, with a delicate “chalky texture and slightly above-average concentration for the region.”
Triple C 2023, a Maipo Valley blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Carmenère, received 94 points, reinterpreting the classic Bordeaux blend through a more vibrant expression. The critic noted that the 2023 vintage and a slightly earlier harvest give the wine a distinctive personality, “tighter and more compact,” with strong energy on the mid-palate.
The Floresta line, crafted with minimal winemaking intervention to maximize the expression of each terroir and variety, also achieved historic results in Vinous. With 95 points, Floresta Carmenère 2024, from Apalta, was praised as “a benchmark wine”, highlighted for its balance and freshness.
From the same origin, Floresta Field Blend Blanco 2024 received 94 points and was described by Hidalgo as “distinctive,” that surprises being “grippy for a white, with a rough texture and vibrant freshness”. Floresta Sauvignon Blanc 2024 earned the same score and was recognized as “a very succesful wine that broadens the stylistic range of the category,” demonstrating the versatility and richness of the variety in the Leyda Valley.
Meanwhile, Floresta Cabernet Sauvignon 2024 earned 93 points, standing out as an expression that offers a different approach on Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon, with the Maipo’s hillside vineyards emphasizing freshness over concentration. With the same score, Floresta Chardonnay 2024, from Limarí, was recognized as a “long and flavorful wine, with a distinctly northern profile.”
Finally, Floresta Cabernet Franc 2024 received 92 points, praised as a juicy and well-balanced red from Alto Jahuel, with good freshness.
Vinous’ recognition also extended to the Medalla Real Gran Reserva portfolio, Viña Santa Rita’s Ultra Premium line, which achieved strong results with its latest vintages. Chardonnay 2025 received 92 points and was described as a “crowd-pleasing white” that reflects the Limarí-style texture, while Cabernet Sauvignon 2024, with the same score, was praised for expressing a “distinctly Chilean style.”
Likewise, Sauvignon Blanc 2025 received 91 points, standing out for its more delicate profile and the notable freshness typical of the Leyda Valley. Finally, Carmenère 2024 received 90 points, with the review highlighting its juicy character, clingy texture and ability to express the qualities of this emblematic Chilean variety.
With these accolades, Viña Santa Rita continues to carry its legacy forward, through wines that reflect the identity of its terroirs, the richness of its historic vineyards and the unique character of each origin.
